Password Generator
Generate strong passwords with crypto-safe randomness, live entropy, and local options in your browser.
About this tool
About
This free password generator creates strong random passwords in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Tune length and character types, see entropy live, and copy—no signup and no passwords stored.
How it works
Choose length and which character types to include. Optional filters drop similar or ambiguous characters. The tool draws unbiased random values with crypto.getRandomValues, shows estimated entropy in bits, and lets you copy or regenerate. Options stay in local storage; the password itself is never saved.
Steps
- Set the length (8–64). Longer passwords are stronger.
- Toggle lowercase, uppercase, digits, and symbols as needed.
- Optionally exclude similar or ambiguous characters, or require each type.
- Copy the password or regenerate for a new one. Use Recommended for a strong default.
Frequently asked questions
How are passwords randomized?
The generator uses window.crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling so every character in the set is equally likely. It does not use Math.random.
What does entropy mean?
Entropy estimates how hard a password is to guess from length and character-set size, shown in bits. Higher is stronger—aim for 60+ bits for most accounts and 80+ for high-value ones.
Are my passwords saved?
No. Passwords are not stored. Only options like length and character toggles can persist in this browser’s local storage.
What does Exclude similar do?
It removes characters that are easy to mix up when reading or typing, such as i, l, 1, L, o, 0, and O.
Is this password generator free?
Yes. It is free to use with no signup. Generate and copy as many passwords as you need in your browser.
Privacy: Generated passwords are kept only in memory for this page session. They are not written to local storage or sent to Utility Tools servers. Only your option preferences are saved in this browser.
